World's first!
New application-specific 7-axis robot for arc welding MOTOMAN-VA1400

MOTOMAN-VA1400

MOTOMAN-VA1400

The MOTOMAN-VA1400 has achieved improvement of productivity and space-saving in the welding line with a high-density and compact layout of the robotic welding system. A higher degree of freedom with 7-axis control as well as built-in torch and grounding cables make the MOTOMAN-VA1400 the ultimate for high-speed arc welding.
High-performance, high-speed welding of any workpiece regardless of length, width, and shape is now possible because the MOTMAN-VA1400 adjusts its posture to keep its arm in the best position for welding at all times. Plus, extra space is not required to prevent interference. Welding process sequences are now be integrated, so one MOTOMAN-VA1400 can do the work of two conventional robots.
The MOTOMAN-VA1400 improves welding quality and productivity, streamlines the layout of welding equipment, requires half the installation space, and makes it possible to construct a high-density, robotic arc-welding system.

7 axes have brought greater freedom for the optimal welding posture at all times.
The MOTOMAN-VA1400 is the world's first arc welding robot with a 7th rotational axis (θ-axis) in the middle of the lower arm.
This seventh axis increases the degree of freedom for greater dexterity, so the robot arm can move around the workpiece and keep the torch in the optimal posture for welding at all times. With fewer difficulties in avoiding interference with workpieces or jigs, the arm of the VA1400 can keep the optimal posture for welding from every possible direction, greatly improving welding quality. It can also step inside the workpiece or jig to weld the interior.

Higher productivity achieved by the joint effect of improved motion characteristics and the world's fastest motion speed.
The MOTOMAN-VA1400 has a 3-kg payload and repeatability during positioning (±0.08 mm). Its motion characteristics are dramatically improved by the increased degree of freedom achieved by its 7-axis control and by its enlarged motion range with a maximum reach of 1434 mm.
Also, the axis speed of the MOTOMAN-VA1400 is the fastest in the world and 5% faster than Yaskawa's conventional 6-axis robots. The improved motion characteristics together with the high-speed motion will increase your productivity.

Reduction of installation space in half has made high density layout possible.
Interference prevention with 7-axis control enables the arm to secure the optimal posture for torch welding from every possible approach to workpieces or jigs. For welding long, big or complicated workpieces, such as automobile or seat frames, the MOTOMAN-VA1400 can be installed on a wall or on a positioner. When in a position above the workpiece, the arm can take the optimal posture for welding without the interference that usually results when a wide space is used to install conventional robots on the floor at the same height as the workpiece. As a result, the installation space can be reduced to half that of a conventional robotic welding system.
Also, several robots can be installed in a limited space, because the arm can easily be kept in a posture that enables it to avoid interference with the arms of other robots nearby. One MOTOMAN-VA1400 can do the same amount of welding as two conventional robots. The MOTOMAN-VA1400 makes it possible to construct a compact, high-density robotic system by reducing the required amount of installation space and number of robots.

Built-in welding torch cables, grounding cables, & gas and air hoses*
The MOTOMAN-VA1400 maintains the same structural design found in all Yaskawa robots optimized for arc welding. Torch cables, hoses, etc. are accommodated in the robot's upper arm, thereby eliminating the problems caused by interference with other robots, devices, and cables. This innovative design enables the arm to easily enter limited spaces, such as inside a workpiece or jig. Other improvements include stepped-up welding quality with better wire feeding, reduced space for cables, and extended cable life.
Also, one grounding cable (60 mm2), one gas hose, and one air hose are accommodated in the base part of the robot for easier use and easier maintenance.
