MOTOMAN-VS50: World's first! New 7-axis robot specifically designed for spot welding

MOTOMAN-VS50

MOTOMAN-VS50

The MOTOMAN-VS50 is designed with 7-axis control for a higher degree of freedom and built-in welding cables and hoses.
With miniaturization of the MOTOMAN-VS50 and the newly developed ultra-small welding gun that can perform as well as or better than a standard spot welding gun, the MOTOMAN-VS50 can work more closely without interference with workpieces or other robots, reach and work in low postures, and easily moves its arm with spot welding gun into very tight areas that were previously inaccessible by conventional robot. Pits and extra space are no longer required to prevent interference.
The MOTOMAN-VS50 improves productivity and makes it possible to construct a high-density and integrated robotic spot-welding system.

Seven axes for greater freedom without interference at optimal welding posture
The MOTOMAN-VS50 is the world's first spot-welding robot with a seventh rotational axis (E-axis) in the lower arm.
This seventh axis increases the degree of freedom. The robot arm can easily move around the workpiece, can change its posture freely while keeping the spot welding gun in its optimal position, and can maintain a low welding posture.
With mutual interference reduced, the MOTOMAN-VS50 can be installed in close proximity with workpieces or other robots. It can also easily reach into low, narrow spaces, eliminating the need for a pit. And, with the robots working in high-density lines, the welding processes can be integrated.

・Adjustable posture to reach low position

Optimized to hold ultra-small, lightweight spot welding gun
The MOTOMAN-VS50 has a 50-kg payload and repeatability during positioning (±0.1 mm). Its motion characteristics are dramatically improved by the increased degree of freedom achieved by its 7-axis control, by its enlarged motion range with a maximum reach of 1630 mm, and by its high motion speed.
Also, Yaskawa has developed an ultra-small and lightweight spot welding gun for the MOTOMAN-VS50. Although it is incredibly small, this new welding spot gun has a welding pressure equivalent to that of a standard spot welding gun. Yaskawa's developed ultra-small and lightweight spot welding gun reduces difficulties with interference, enables high-density welding lines, and improves work productivity.

Standard Specifications of MOTOMAN-VS50
World's first: Built-in welding cables and hoses
All driving axes in the MOTOMAN-VS50 from the E-axis on the lower arm to the T-axis at the end of the arm, use Yaskawa's innovative, compact actuators with hollow shafts that contain built-in gear systems. The driving cable for the actuator, hoses for cooling water and connectors or terminals for gun motor and welding power supplies for spot welding can all be accommodated in the robot's upper arm.
This innovative design eliminates the need for extra space for cable and hose movement, reduces interference with robots and workpieces, and decreases cable and hose wear. In addition, it enables welding lines with high-density layouts and easy operation.
